When a Permit is Required
Under the Connecticut State Building Code, permits are required for structural changes, additions, deck construction, window replacements, and any plumbing, electrical, or heating/cooling upgrades. Minor cosmetic updates usually do not need them.
- Structural wall removals and framing modifications
- New deck construction or safety rail replacements
- Specialty electrical panels, generators, or HVAC upgrades
- Minor repairs, tiling, and painting are generally exempt
